A new position has been created at our production site in Mouscron. This is one of our 3 modern production sites in Belgium ánd the only French Pastry factory of the Lantmännen Unibake Group, where we create both sweet as savory products.

To complete the Site Management team in Mouscron, we are hiring an entrepreneurial Maintenance & Engineering Manager.

As Maintenance & Engineering Manager you set-up the maintenance strategy for our French Pastry production site. You manage the maintenance budget, oversee technical investment projects and initiate improvement projects that professionalize our organization. You organize preventive, curative and predictive maintenance for the technical production park as well as the utilities so that the global standards for safety & quality within Unibake & the food sector are achieved.

You hold a key position within the Site Management team and are in close contact with our Production, Quality Manager, Engineering team,…, and understand the people aspect in every change.

What sets this opportunity apart is your ownership of the design and installation stages of projects for new assets and modifications of existing ones. We have an ambitious expansion strategy that is linked with significant Capex-investments.

Primary areas of responsibility:

  • Ensure the highest reliability & availability of the production assets & facilities

    • By developing a proactive preventive/predictive maintenance program – based on a failure risk assessment and critically analysis of the assets (cfr. Reliability Centre Maintenance)
    • Defining the plant shutdown strategy in order to mitigate the risk of failure – particularly for our 24/7 production site – in alignment with the Production Department
    • Providing technical support for machinery troubleshooting and optimization, and promote the implementation of a continuous defect elimination culture ;
    • Ensuring a proper organization, optimization, and control regarding local maintenance & technical warehouse and material management (MRO);
    • Ensuring/participating and acting as a sponsor of continuous root cause failure analysis, as well as monitoring the action plan associated with these solutions;
  • Maintenance Budget Management

    • Driving business case development, project engineering & realization of CAPEX-investments related to production assets and facilities;
    • Developing, proposing, monitoring & controlling the maintenance budget (OPEX)
    • Following up & reporting of KPIs (cfr. OEE/Availability/Reliability, Cost Management, PM/PdM Compliance,…) & performance analysis of the maintenance area
    • Leading technical & commercial negotiations regarding the acquisition/establishment of external services & MRO framework contract/agreements;
  • Support the engineering & management team regarding

    • the definition of the asset life cycle strategy, purchase, and installation process of new assets

    • follow up of the required commissioning of new assets and integrating these into the maintenance strategy;

  • To lead, inspire, motivate & train the maintenance team.

    • Besides 12 technicians, you steer another 4 colleagues (Assistant Maintenance Manager, Reliability Engineer, Work Planner and Warehouse Manager).

    • Develop & drive the training program in order to build and consolidate competences, promoting the right behavior and close eventual gaps;


Your profile

  • In addition to your Master Engineering - preferably in Electromechanics, Electronics and/or Automation - you have a track record of managing a maintenance department in the process industry.

  • Knowledge within the food sector is an asset, but more important is your thorough knowledge of multiple techniques & processes such as "cooling, compressed air, electricity, steam, drives, hydraulics".

  • Project Management experience, focus on cost efficiencies & a Lean/Continuous Improvement mindset. Being an expert in OEE tools is a must and a thorough knowledge of CMMS systems.

  • You communicate fluently in French & English - any additional language is an advantage.

Ideally you also master the following competence

  • As a seasoned people manager you are strong in coaching & motivating your team;
  • Thanks to your analytical skills you easily gain insight into processes, and you switch between a helicopter view and make a deep dive into details;
  • You are result-oriented, strong in problem-solving and show a flexible mindset to adjust priorities when needed;
  • You have a strong business acumen – you work on business processes, have financial insight, etc.;
  • Your communication skills are on point, and you adapt your style to your counterparts;
  • As a team-oriented person, you collaborate with colleagues across disciplines within our multinational environment and share best practices
