From Breakfast to Boardroom
In this interview, we dive into the life of Pelle Tordrup, an IT graduate at Unibake, exploring the blend of technology and baking. Pelle describes his daily routines, project experiences, and the unique opportunities the program offers. From tackling IT challenges to contributing to global bakery operations, he uncovers what makes working at Unibake an enriching experience.
Can you describe a day in the life of an IT Graduate at Unibake?
In Unibake, my day typically kicks off with a breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead. Following this, I dive into my mailbox, prioritizing tasks and structuring my time around scheduled meetings. With a clear agenda in mind, I proceed to tackle a range of IT project management duties.
However, every other week, Monday takes on a different rhythm as it marks the beginning of a travel-intensive period. Currently, this entails travelling to the Baltics, where the project team spends Monday through Thursday immersed in on-site work with a bakery undergoing a significant IT transformation. This hands-on approach allows for direct engagement with stakeholders, problem-solving in real-time, and ensuring seamless implementation of technological advancements.
What are some of the projects you've been involved with that you find particularly exciting or rewarding – and why?
In my current role, I'm deeply involved in an ERP project spanning across the Baltics. Specifically, my focus lies within integrated business planning and its associated systems. This aspect of the project is particularly exhilarating due to the complexity and breadth of knowledge it demands. The opportunity to contribute to the optimization and streamlining of IT systems and business processes across multiple regions adds a layer of significance to my work in Unibake.
How have these experiences shaped your understanding of the global bakery business?
My role involves not only working with ERP systems that span across the global bakery business but also includes visiting bakeries around the world. This unique combination provides me with a comprehensive understanding of the industry from both a technological and operational perspective.
Through my travels to various bakeries worldwide, I gain firsthand insights into their diverse practices, challenges, and market dynamics. Witnessing the day-to-day operations allows me to grasp the nuances of bakery management, from production processes to supply chain logistics.
What unique opportunities have you encountered in the program that you believe you wouldn't have found elsewhere?
One of the standout opportunities in my role has been the chance to present strategic recommendations directly to Executive Management—a privilege I believe would have been much harder to come by elsewhere, especially at such an accelerated pace. This exposure has provided invaluable insights into high-level decision-making processes and allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the company's direction
How would you describe the culture at Unibake?
The culture within Unibake is vibrant and diverse, fostering an enriching atmosphere that celebrates various backgrounds and perspectives. Working in such an international environment provides me with the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from all over the world, each bringing their unique insights and experiences to the table.
The team spirit among colleagues is strong, creating a supportive and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and respected. This sense of community not only enhances teamwork but also cultivates a culture of continuous learning and personal growth.
How does it support your growth and ambitions as part of the IT Graduate Program?
Overall, the combination of a great culture, diverse colleagues, and involvement in global projects contributes significantly to my personal and professional development, helping me thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
