Unibake sharpens climate targets to address land-based emissions

Lantmännen Unibake is taking the next step in our science-based climate journey. As part of our continued commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we now formally include FLAG emissions as a core part of our climate strategy.
The land use sector is the third-largest contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for 22% of total GHGs. By setting targets specifically for these emissions, we are strengthening our science-based approach and addressing a critical part of our value chain. For a bakery business like ours, closely tied to farming and land use, this is where some of the most meaningful progress can be made.
Why FLAG matters
FLAG emissions come from deforestation, land conversion, agricultural practices, and include biogenic CO₂ removals from the atmosphere to the soil. SBTi now requires food and agriculture companies to treat these emissions separately, recognizing their central role in climate action.
What’s changing in our climate targets
In line with updated SBTi guidance, we’ve made three key adjustments to our approved climate targets:
Split Scope 3 reduction target for 2030
- Energy & Industry: 27.5% reduction
- FLAG (Land-based): 33.3% reduction
Updated net-zero long-term target for 2050
- Energy & Industry: 90% reduction
- FLAG: 72% reduction
Remaining emissions may be neutralized through climate compensation.
Refined 2027 supplier engagement target
We’ve narrowed our focus to the suppliers that drive the largest emissions.
- Purchased goods and services
- Transport, and logistics
Business travel suppliers are no longer included.
Bringing FLAG into our climate targets is more than a technical update. It’s a step forward. It sharpens our focus on land-based emissions and strengthens our commitment to science-based, meaningful action.

This evolution ensures we’re tackling the areas that matter most – staying transparent and driving real change. Now it’s about scale, collaboration, and staying ambitious.
The inclusion of FLAG emissions strengthens our direction but does not shift. We remain focused on where we can have the biggest impact, and we will continue to build on our progress with clarity, transparency, and accountability.
Together, we keep baking for a better world.
