Business travel & commuting

Travelling and commuting are unavoidable side effects from working in an international bakery such as Lantmännen Unibake. By 2030, we have committed to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel and commuting by 30%.

Airplanes, trains, buses, cars, buses, motorcycles, scooters, bicycles. We all travel to go to work. The key is to make smart choices that are good for both employees and the climate.

In 2021, we committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and as a part of that process we have identified several areas where we need to reduce CO2e emissions. Even though business travel and commuting are only pieces of that puzzle they are very visible pieces, and they set the standard for everyone in the organization. As such, our business travel and commuting policy must match the ambitious requirements we have for all other crucial areas on our climate agenda.

Among other things, we are in the most technologically mature markets demanding that new company cars are electric powered. We are asking employees to consider – and maybe even reconsider – if meetings must be held as physical meetings or if video meetings can be sufficient for the purpose. Likewise, a flight travel might be replaced by a public transportation alternative like a train.

Working with the green transition is making a lot of daily choices that in combination have the potential to make a difference.
